Chief Coach named as Coach/Instructor of the Year 2017

Tamworth Herald organised a Spirit of Tamworth Awards scheme for people who volunteer to help in various ways throughout the Tamworth area.  Several categories were announced and members of the public were asked to write in with their suggestions of people whom they felt should be recognised for the work they do to help others.

Derek Northcote, the Club's Chief Coach, was nominated for this award and was one of four finalists in this category.  To his surprise he was announced the winner at an awards ceremony held at Drayton Manor Theme Park.  This is an accolade that Derek so deserves as he has given up his time for the last 38 years to help people with all disabilities  learn to swim and to enjoy being in the water.  From everyone at The Unicorns Derek, a very Well Done from us all and thank you for all your hard work in making the Unicorns such a successful club.

Tamworth Unicorns held their 41st Annual Swimming Gala on Saturday 21st October 2017 at the SnowDome Leisure Centre Swimming Pool in Tamworth.  The teams attending this gala were  Crest of Burton on Trent D.S.C., Lichfield Penguins D.S.C., Bedworth D.S.C., Leicester Saffron D.S.C., Cheslyn Hay Otters D.S.C. and Tamworth Unicorns D.S.C. The Mayor and Mayoress of Tamworth Councillor John Chesworth and Mayoress Mrs. Tereasa Chesworth were also in attendance to meet and present the medals and awards along with members of Simon's Heroes who kindly sponsored the event.  Members of Tamworth Swimming Club provided the officials for this gala and we would like to thank everyone very much indeed for all their help and support.

We all had a very good evening and some very good swimming took place with personal best times being achieved.  Well Done to  everyone.
